A chicane is a tight sequence of corners — usually a quick left-right or right-left — designed to slow cars down at key points on a circuit. You’ll often find them just after long straights, where they act as built-in speed bumps to prevent drivers from braking 200 meters too late and punting themselves into the scenery. Drivers tend to hate them (especially the clumsy, awkward ones), but they do offer overtaking chances — and endless replay fodder when someone sends it just a bit too deep.
