A jump start happens when a driver moves off the grid before the lights go out, even slightly. F1 uses sensors to detect movement, and there’s almost zero wiggle room — you go early, you’re getting a time penalty, usually five or ten seconds. Doesn’t matter if you only twitched, or if you immediately stopped again. It’s a high-stakes moment of precision — blink too late and you lose positions, blink too early and you lose everything.
