The Clerk of the Course is the event-side authority responsible for making sure the race actually happens safely and smoothly. They control track operations, marshal coordination, red flag procedures, and all the “you don’t want this to go wrong” logistics. While the stewards handle penalties, the Clerk runs the show on-site. Think of them as F1’s behind-the-scenes director — not often seen, but if they’re doing their job right, nobody crashes into a crane.
